Abstract lyrical nature settings are my thing…

Dena D’Angelo is a painter who has worked in the film, television, and opera world painting and designing for over 30 years. She also has her own company, Pretty in Paint, which specializes in unique mural commissions.

As a Scenic Artist, Dena utilizes various mediums, tools, and graphic materials to create fantasy environments for the entertainment industry. These techniques and the creation of digital drawings inspired by her photography fuel her abstract fine art. In 2022, Dena exhibited at CadFab Creative Gallery with her “Mood Food - Trees” solo show and is happy to now be working with a partner, Bente Christensen to curate the gallery’s shows and events.

In my work, I am not recreating a specific landscape, instead I touch on what some of the memories of a visit to nature are. Lines, curves, mood, and peeks of light are subject to my experimentation. Always playful in content and creation, I invite the observer to let their mind wander and slip into these magical settings - seeing different things at different viewings. Whimsical themes of colorfully intertwined roots & branches or rowdy ocean waves often dance on my canvases.

Dena shares her time between Los Angeles and the Pacific Northwest where she soaks up much of her inspiration. She is passionate about repurposing materials, so many of the pieces are sourced from scrap materials that would have otherwise ended up in the dumpster of a television production.
